What's the skinny with VPN users?
I know what a VPN is, but I have never used one.
My forum is aimed at my own small country (New Zealand). But of course anyone is welcome to join (but not bots or spammers of course)
I get a few new members where my Xenforo New Registration ID says they may be using a vpn and they are from a strange country eg Philippines, or France, or Vietnam.
If a person uses a VPN can they choose any country they like? or does it depend on where the vpn is based?

Today I just got 3 registration requests, I usually get from 1 to 2 a day.
They were all from New York (when my forum is New Zealand orientated) and they were all using VPN's

Should I accept their registrations
Or ask them why they want to join?

Some VPN providers allow you to choose the country IP to use.

I find that users who register with VPNs are mostly spammers or they’re really cautious about their privacy and exposing their real IP.

I would be cautious accepting them, I wouldn’t outright reject them but I’d watch over their activity and see if they’re only there to spam. If you feel like you should ask them why they want to join then you should do it, it may help in identifying if they’re genuine or not.

I always also find VPN users to be spammers and/or spambots too. You sometimes also will get users who are legit and use VPNs for various reasons. If they randomly used their real IP and then a VPN I'd not even question it tbh.
